Posthumous Awardee
Dr. Wilfrido D. Gedang, DMD

Wilfrido Dimanlig Gedang was born in Antipolo, Rizal, Philippines on September 12, 1942. He graduated in 1968 from University of the East College of Dentistry in Manila with his DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine). He passed the Board Exam for Dentistry in May 18, 1968 and was on the top ten. On December 11, 1971 he married Delia B. Ballesteros and in November 1972, they migrated to the United States.

Willie passed the Dental Board Exam in California in 1979. His first job as a Licensed Dentist was at Group Dental Service. In 1981, Willie opened his first dental practice with Dr. Oscar Marquez in Pacoima, Ca., and 10 years later he opened a new practice on his own. Dedicated on the field of Dentistry, he received the distinctive honor of becoming a Fellow Of The Academy Of Dentistry International (FAD) in 1992. He was the past president for 2 years (1993-1994) of the SCFDS after 32 years of dental practice. Willie retired in 2010.

Outside of work, he was an active member of the community in many organizations to include Lions Club, Marriage Encounter, Our Mother of Perpetual Help Rosary Group, Filipino Cursillos In Christianity (FCIC), and St Peter Claver Filipino Catholic Group (FCCG). A devoted man and parishioner of St. Peter Claver Church since 1982. Willie served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister for many years. With his dedication to the church, he received a Partners Service Award from Catholic Charities Ventura County in 2015.

A beloved husband to Delia and wonderful father to Maria Christina, Reuben John and Cynthia May. Willie was also an amazing grandfather to Justin Ryan, Ariana Lynn and Addison Mae. He passed away on February 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Mission for a cause

Our next dental mission is in Bayambang Pangasinan. Southern California Filipino Dental Society in cooperation with Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation headed by Cesar T. Quaimbao, will organize a two day dental mission that will be offered for the underserved in Bayambang Pangasinan.

The dental mission starts on October 14, 2017 and will end on October 15, 2017. Accommodation, meal and local transportation to and from the airport will be provided.

Awards ceremony

During SCFDS anniversary, we award members and individuals who made exceptional contribution to the organization. We celebrate our achievements and the many causes we’ve funded. It is also an opportunity to raise additional funds for our dental missions and other progressive events such continuing education seminar.
